At this time (Fall, 2026) there is much discussion about what is real. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has only blurred this discussion, as we now have a machine that will create human-like artifacts based on the mishmash of massive training sets. It appears David Deutschmay have been on to something when he wrote about virtual reality so many years ago.
So, why not just have AI make everything? Aren’t the machines better than people? Isn’t Velveeta better than real cheese (NO!)?
I like making things. In doing so, I learn about myself. I learn about the world. I make friends when I share what I make. Efficiency is not THE goal of my life. I like being a human in the loop, expressing my likes, dislikes, joys, and concerns through art.
In making Tonewulf music, we use virtual instruments, samples, etc…mostly heavily manipulated by plug-ins and FX based on our tastes. We also typically play a lot of real instruments as well…I try to put a little vibraslap in every song…if I can do so without forcing it.
In sum…do real things with real people. Sometimes the “real” things will be mediated by technology. Hopefully most of it will be analog…IRL…touch grass…etc.

Our next album will come out this month. We will make music videos of children dancing in costumes. the new album will contain strange noises. It will have more than a smidge of bespoke mixing and editing. We hope you love it and that it grounds you in reality.
